Children in our infant class are cared for lovingly by expert teachers, each according to his or her own individualized schedule. We ask parents to fill out an infant feeding plan to make sure each baby is nourished properly, according to parental instructions. Our low 4:1 ratio means that infants at SOWJS receive plenty of individualized attention!
Our youngest learners are born capable of so much - they communicate their needs and learn to trust the adults in their world through secure attachments when their needs are met. Infants are eager to explore their world and thrive on sensory input, positive interacations, and hands-on exploration of their world.
After welcoming a new baby, not every family needs full time daycare right away. At SOWJS, families are able to choose the schedule that works best for their situation, and enrolled families can even take advantage of additional "drop-in" care as needed! With a short wait list for our new classroom opening soon, we invite you to schedule your personalized tour today!
When children show us that they are ready to move up from the infant classroom, our toddler classroom awaits! This allows for even more exploration and looks more like a traditional preschool classroom - complete with blocks, books, a train table, puzzles, manipulatives, a dramtic play area and accessible art materials!
Toddlers and Young 2's need to be able to take risks and experiment to learn about their world and their place within it. We go outside as long as it is safe - rain or shine - to give children the opportunity to experience weather, change and to learn flexibility. Even in our toddler class, the teachers are careful observers and researchers and make curricular choices based on the children's interests.
Toddler Childcare: Our Toddlers enjoy a 5:1 ratio and our 2's follow a 6:1 ratio, both with a maximum group size of 10 children. We always follow the ratio of the youngest child in the group - which means we are able to give your child the individualized attention s/he deserves (which is critical as children begin toilet-learning)!
Children in our mixed-age Pre-K class are curious explorers, and our teachers guide their learning across all domains - preliteracy, math, science - cognitive and physical development. We believe in meeting children where they are and scaffolding their learning to reach new milestones as they show readiness.
Learning to be a member of a classroom community while simultaneously focusing on independence is crucial as children prepare for Kindergarten. Our children are taught the language of collaboration, negotiation, and self-advocacy. Our teachers are skilled at helping children navigate relationships, and the friendships that form in Pre-K lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning to care for others.
Give your child the gift of time! Because we know children develop along their own trajectories, some children benefit from an additional preschool year. This often enables them to be the oldest in their class as they enter elementary school. With this extra year of school, the children have the time and space they need to develop stronger emotional and social skills including impulse control, an increased attention span and better ability to regular themselves. Often, we find that children with summer birthdays benefit from this experience. At the end of this year, many children will complete another year of Kindergarten. However, because Kindergarten is not mandated in GA, if you find your newly turned 6 year old is ready, you can enroll him/her in first grade!
We are licensed to provide a hands-on exploration based Kindergarten experience that focuses on children's ability to work together as part of community while also strengthening their independence and self-help skills. Of course, we are ready to scaffold children's learning in all areas of academics as they show readiness to prepare them for Elementary School. Our Kindergarten program is the perfect fit for the family who is more interested in their 5 year old continuing to learn through play and inquiry instead of spending the day sitting at a desk and filling out worksheets as they prepare for Elementary School!
